I have always been fascinated with abstract imagery. When I was a little girl I was obsessed with modern art and architecture. I loved to look at Abstract painting. I spent hours designing plans for modern houses and signed my plans with my Architect moniker Marsha Mod. I still love modern architecture. I have my dream house all planned out and ready to be built.
When I was 10, I went with my parents to a show of paintings by James Whistler (famous mother) at the De Young Museum in San Francisco. I announced that I found the work offensive (to my modern aesthetic). So I sat outside on the lawn for 2 hours while they attended the show. I think they were used to my attitude and somewhat accepting. At least they took me to museums even though it was icky figurative painting.

What I don't want to do is be like a billon bloggers out there and discuss cooking and take a photo of the food I'm cooking. But I might do that once in a while if that's ok with you.
What I do want to do is talk about the books I've been reading but I've been really reluctant. Why? Fear of criticism? Fear of not being an expert? Of not being trained in literary criticism?
I read fiction for pleasure. For the last year I have been reading almost exclusively contemporary Indian literature. I'm not sure why but I know what books started it: A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry, The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri and Brick Lane by Monica Ali.
At first I was very selective and was really only interested in very urban and contemporary stories. What I loved about The Namesake and Brick Lane is that the were about emigrants to the US and England. I am interested in old and modern culture clash and generational culture clash.

I went to the best grocery store in the world today. I always go grocery shopping in Berkeley -- the mecca of food-- after therapy. Today I decided to try the Monterey Market. It was soooo fabulous. Amazing incredible produce half the price of Whole Foods. They had everything. Lots of speciality asian foods and hispanic foods. I got early girl tomatoes to make fresh pasta sauce, glorious green beans and corn, plus fruit. I want to take Daryl there!!!! And I got really excited because there was an Indian man behind me in line. Hee hee! I was trying to see what he was getting without being obvious ( Right). He bought lots of vegetable and fruit, okra, cauliflower, and green beans and cabbage. Of course what a cultural blunder to assume that he was cooking Indian food.
The neighborhood around the market was really nice. I want to move there and be a hardcore foodie and get a dog. Would that be weird to move to a neighorhood because of the market, to move to Berkeley for the food? Oh well, I'm not moving anytime soon.
BTW, the appt at the hand surgeon was moved to the 31st. Of course, I didn't find out til showed up,,,,

Wow, wild dreams last night. Lots of activities and people and travel. Tage from Propellerheads was there. There was a line to get in to some fancy special event and I snuck in with foreign dignitary. I remember eating fish --it was as though I was underwater and eating them live—they were spiny and crunchy. The man sat down next to me and I tried to make conversation and said "Have you tried the fish?' He said "No, I'm a vegetarian." And I realized it was Sting! Hahahaha

I've been drinking too much coffee and it's making me crabby. Sarah and I are going to give our friend Christen a little Bachlorette event on Saturday. I might drink. It could be fun. I'll just be useless the next day. I keep plotting the drinking. I guess I shouldn't mix. Maybe I'll just do wine and sake. I do like snake bites, and tonic. Wow! drinking...
